The narration was minimal. Would have liked more information and history on the audio part on the bus. Bus was not available for half the route the second half day due to an event. We had planned on using it in the second afternoon only - would have been nice to have been refunded a portion since unusable.

The service works very well, but I found the audio guide boring, it lost my concentration and interest. I would improve that, the way of telling what you are seeing, in a more relaxed and less documentary way.

Enjoyable experience that allows you to see some significant places in the City of Rome. I really appreciated the audio guide. Only flaw the cleanliness.....in the afternoon the bus was very dirty, garbage and dirt prevented sitting in some seats.

The route covered most of Rome, which was excellent. On one bus the commentary was fabulous with conversations between Italian people in English but on another the English sounded like it was AI generated and it was terrible and didn't make sense.

The bs trip was really great. One of the buses had a pretty stupid commentary with three people giving irrelevant information, but the other buses had sensible and informative commentary. It was a bit of a trek to the Spanish steps and Trevu Fountain from the stop which was hard going in the heat. Booking through headout was quick and easy and we were able to redeem the voucher for a ticket with no problem at all.

Categories and subcategories above don't fit my needs! Require an 'OTHER' box to tick. Please disregard the boxes ticked and see below. Not so good - Commentary wasn't always in sync with where we were so was hard to follow at times. Did another hop on/off in Palermo (with another company) and it was spot on. Got on the bus and we weren't told where the earphones were. Sat down and then had to ask another passenger. Would have been good to have them placed when we walked on (maybe near the driver). Good - the staff organising everyone at the stops. Was well organised.

Very easy to get tickets and then find the right location and bus. Commentary was humerous throughout and also very informative. Liked the option of closed downstairs or open air downstairs as it was very hot. We did the route and then again once we decided where to visit as our time was limited. All in all great experience and good value for money.

I like the ease of being able to hop on and off the bus. I think it would be better to advise how far away the attraction is from the bus's hop on or off spot. For example the coliseum hop on hop off spot is down the street and around the corner, that information would have been more helpful to include with the information about the location already available.

Very easy to use even with my adult daughter in her wheelchair. The only down side was that no one told us that bus stop number 7 on the red route was not in use which we decided to wait at having pushed our daughter all the way up hill from the Spanish steps!

We had booked the Hop On Hop Off tour in Rome so that we could plan our exploration tour as flexibly as possible. With the app, we could always see exactly when a bus was on its way to the next stop. That worked very well. We had the option of getting on or off at any of the stops. Perfect for us. We also used the headphones on the bus and were able to listen to interesting details in German. Sometimes, especially when getting on at the main station, the buses are very full, so you just take the next one or walk one stop forwards or backwards. You can either take it all in a relaxed manner or get off at every stop and explore the city. Simply great. We would book it again in the same way.

A great thing that saves a lot of walking. All the main things are easy to see and even more interesting with the audio information. We initially traveled the entire route, which gave us the opportunity to decide where we wanted to get off and see something. It's a good way to start your visit to the city, especially with children. Friendly outside. Good value for money compared to the competition. The driver didn't want to uncover the roof of the bus even though it wasn't raining... He replied in Italian, looking up at the sky. He was talking about the weather, but his colleague checking the entrances told us that the roof could no longer be opened: it was broken. So we asked to go down and wait for the next one: what's the point of having a closed roof? And then he looked at us and said... it's ok, we'll fix it. 5 seconds later the roof was stowed away, much to the delight of the passengers who hadn't dared ask. Too bad, though, that we had to insist. Don't hesitate!

I was lucky enough to have rented an apartment near the Spanish Steps stop which was 200 metres away. So it was very convenient to get on to the bus. Also I had booked online and l could just exchange my barcode on my mobile for the tickets for the 5 of us for our 48 hours usage in Rome. This was the 1st time l had used Headout.com . I had read all the reviews on Big Bus and a few other companies including Headout and l chose Headout as their tickets were €3.80 per ticket cheaper than Big Bus. There seemed to be no difference in the stops the others offered on the tour as they all stop at the same place. I have used Bug Bus before in Budapest as there were no other choice there . I am happy with Headout and would recommend them

Fairly easy to find the joining point (open-top city bus tour) but being Rome the city centre was absolutely gridlocked with private cars, so lots of time in stationary traffic in nondescript streets. That said, an easy way to see many of the main heritage sites.

The experience was ok. The stops were all far away from our end destinations. The headphones were extremely cheap and didn't stay in our ears. Additionally, the bus would start causing a 10 minute delay. Also, the high number of people asking us to do a bus tour when we pre-booked was extremely annoying.

Easy jump on and jump off. A few things to improve on though: 1)Make the bus stops much more visible. The red signs are too small. 2)On the commentary the commentator should say 'on your left is' and'on your right is'. Too many times the commentator says something is there but you don't know where to look. Enjoyable all the same but these improvements would make it awesome.

A really great way to view Rome. The ability to get on and off to visit different sights is really helpful you can choose how long you spend on there and where you get on and off.

The tour itself was nice, but it was problematic to find some of the stops. The stops were quite chaotic and crowded, it wasn't clear in which bus to go. That is probably due to the fact that the stops are for all the bus companies. Sometimes the stops weren't matching the stops indicated in the recommended app.

The route followed is very useful, it takes you close to the most popular tourist spots (this being Rome, it is obvious that it cannot leave you in front of the Trevi Fountain, you have to walk a bit). The only downside is the malfunctioning of some of the guides, on the bus we had to change seats several times to hear it.

I really did LOVe it. The frequency of this service was less than competitors. The distances from the stop and the major attraction was excessive and the drop off point on the night tour was no where near the agreed one ( pick up spot) Other companies seemed to travel much closer to the Vatican for example.

The Sight seeing bus was fantastic. We got the 72 hour pass that included free night bus. It cost very little more than the 24 hour ticket. We used it several times a day. Never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus and could always get a seat on open top upper floor. The buses are really popular and so they are very packed and they are slow as traffic in Rome is crazy. However we found them a nice break to sit down and relax between sights. Especially good for my nearly 70 mum to take a break but still be seeing all the sights of Rome.

The HOHO Bus, City Sightseeing in Rome was wonderful. We purchased a 24-hour tour for 19-20 of June. It was very hot outdoors, but very convenient inside the lower deck and amazing upstairs. We appreciate the friendly staff, the route a lot. The only drawback was the fact that the last bus from Termini is at 19.00. Too early, especially for summer. All in all, I will recommend undoubtedly! Attached - view from upstairs.

We purchased 8 tickets valid for the day 25/05/2024 but on that day there were several events in Rome and 3 stops (the main ones) after 2:30 pm were closed so we could not use this service in full.

it was first expirience with bus tour and we liked it, we have one day in Rome and that was the best solution to quickly look around and see main points and hear historical facts and information about the Rome. Castel Sant'Angelo is absolutly must to visit with its history and nice views from the top of the castel.

The entrance without queue. They should point out on the signage more details about the areas being toured, as well as a coordinated circuit to avoid going through the same place twice. Also the number of steps that the stairs have in each section where they exist.

The ticket price offered value for money and there was plenty to see over the 2 days. The audio was informative but a bit quiet - probably more to do with the noise outside. Some A/C on the bus would have been a bonus!

While it is good to get in and off where u want, I don't think making everyone meet at the terminal is essential. You should be able to start the tour wherever you want once you have paid!

This was a great way to get a sense of Rome's scale and locations to visit. The audio guide was informative. The music played between descriptions to block out road noise was effective and made it more relaxing. We road the full loop first, which took an hour and a half then stayed on the bus to get dropped off to visit the Oarthenon. Glad we did this since when we returned to the bus later to use it to return to the starting point it was packed and we could not reboard so we just walked back to the train station instead which fortunately worked out alright. The first tour starts at 9am and it would have been good to be able to get on at an earlier time like 8am but maybe this is related to traffic laws related to peak commuting hours. It was easy to get on at the first stop right beside the central train station.

We were able to skip the queue, which was great. In general, Castel Sant'Angelo is just a beautiful vantage point. The inside is rather empty. If you want to have a nice view of the Vatican City and the Tilber, you can do that. You can also watch a great sunset there. Value for money okay

Me and my friend booked two skip the line tickets and we just roamed the castle ourselves. No guides or anything but still it was a beautiful experience. And as for the tickets we just showed them at the staff at the entrance and everything went smoothly. I advise anyone who wants to visit the site to book tickets as the waiting line was very big. We received the tickets at our email about an hour after the payment as it was said

Audioguide It was not indicated that it would be downloadable to the cell phone. We did have headphones, but the jack was for the traditional audio guide, not for the phone. This required an internet connection, and not everyone has the right package. Time-consuming procedures, ticket collection point not indicated, unclear booking information. However, the girl who finally took charge was competent. Difficult to manage the photo application. Little historical explanation. Problems managing stages.

The entrance without queue. They should point out on the signage more details about the areas being toured, as well as a coordinated circuit to avoid going through the same place twice. Also the number of steps that the stairs have in each section where they exist.

Why choose Hop-on Hop-off Rome?

Explore at Your Own Pace/Flexibility

How to choose the best Hop-on Hop-off tour?

While all the bus operators in Rome provide a similar quality of service, ensuring a comfortable and informative experience, the key differences lie in the specific routes, cost, and additional features offered.

  • Premium experience: Big Bus, a renowned operator and the largest of open-top sightseeing bus tours globally, with over 20 years of history offers premium quality services, including the most extensive routes and top-tier commentary. Ideal for those who want the best experience at a higher price point.
  • Budget-friendly options: Local operators, I Love Rome and Green Line, offer the cheapest options. I Love Rome is slightly cheaper. Ideal for quick tours, I Love Rome offers a "1 run" ticket, while Green Line offers a "3 stops" ticket. Perfect if you plan to make just one loop without using hop-on hop-off all day.
  • Mid-range option: City Sightseeing has a Global Presence and a well-known brand with operations worldwide. It’s priced higher than local brands like I Love Rome and Green Line, making it a middle-ground option for those seeking a reasonable price.
  • Unique routes: Green Line offers 3 different routes to explore all corners of the city, Discover Rome (Green route) to explore top sights of Rome, Destination Eataly (Orange route) to discover food and local markets and Explore Museums (Blue route) to explore museums and art galleries.

Finding the perfect Hop-on Hop-off pass duration

When choosing a Rome Hop-on Hop-off pass, it's important to compare the options to find the one that best suits your travel style and schedule.

  • The 24-hour pass is perfect if you're short on time and want to see as much as possible in a day. This option is available with all major operators including I Love Rome, Big Bus, City Sightseeing, and Green Line. It’s the most affordable option and lets you hit the highlights quickly. However, it might feel rushed if you want to explore each site thoroughly.
  • The 48-hour pass offers a better balance, giving you two days to explore the city at a more relaxed pace. Available with I Love Rome, Big Bus, City Sightseeing, and Green Line, it’s ideal if you want the flexibility to spend more time at your favorite attractions without the pressure of cramming everything into one day. The cost per day is also lower than buying two separate 24-hour passes, making it a more economical choice for those with a bit more time.
  • For a truly immersive experience, the 72-hour pass is the way to go. With three days, you can dive deep into Rome’s history, revisit spots you love, and even discover some hidden gems. This pass is offered by all major operators: I Love Rome, Big Bus, City Sightseeing, and Green Line.
  • In comparison, the 1 loop pass, only available with I Love Rome, is for those who want a quick, non-stop overview of the city, while the 3 stops pass, available exclusively with Green Line, is ideal if you only plan to visit a few key attractions, making them the 2 most affordable options. The 1 calendar day pass from City Sightseeing is similar to the 24-hour pass but limits your use to a single day, making it a good option if you start early and want to cover a lot within that day.

Each pass has its strengths, so think about how much time you have and how you would like to explore. The 24-hour or 1 loop passes are great if you're all about speed. For a more relaxed visit, the 48-hour or 72-hour passes offer more flexibility. If you’re selective about what you want to see, the 3 stops pass could be just right.

Tips to make the best of your Hop-on Hop-off Rome tour

  • Do a full loop: If you’ve got the time, we recommend taking an entire loop on the route without getting off the bus. You can get a grand overview of the city and plan your course better by doing this.
  • Rome city cards: Invest in Rome city cards like Roma Pass & Omnia Card which often include hop-on hop-off Rome passes and attraction tickets, for a more cost-effective trip.
  • Combo tickets: Like city cards, buying combo tickets adds great monetary value. You can club your hop-on hop-off pass with entry tickets to the Colosseum, Bioparco, and Borghese Gallery, or skip-the-line tickets to Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel.
  • What to wear: Rome has many attractions that follow a strict dress code. Remember this when you plan your outfit for the day.
  • Carry minimum luggage: Hop-on hop-off Rome tours allow only small bags on a guest. So pack light and carry just the essentials.
  • Advance ticket purchase: Buy all your attraction tickets online in advance so that you don't have to waste time in queues. If they are timed tickets, make sure you factor in traffic and leave ample time to commute from the last destination on the hop-on hop-off tour.
